Construcción de las Stavkirke / Stave church construction

Comúnmente, las stavkirke han pasado por tres tipos de técnicas constructivas. En sus orígenes, se podían construir mediante la técnica de empalizadas o la de postes, y finalmente la técnica de stavverk, lo que en noruego significa "obras con postes de madera". Las dos primeras eran más susceptibles a pudrirse por tener sus postes clavados en la tierra. Analicemos una por una cada técnica:

Commonly, stavkirke or stave church have passed through 3 different styles. At the beginning, they could be built with the palisade's technique or the poles' one, and finally the technique called stavverk, which in Norse means "works with wooden poles". The first two techniques could rot easily because they have the wooden poles nailed on the ground. Let's analyze one by one each technique:

Durante la época vikinga, no había en el norte ninguna gran ciudad, a lo sumo pequeñas aldeas sedentarias que volvían al nomadismo cuando la situación lo requería (véase el caso de los islandeses). En estas pequeñas aldeas no importaba tanto el arte como propaganda del poder sino el utilitarismo, vinculado al bienestar de la aldea, por lo que las únicas construcciones eran grandes cabañas comunitarias y algún pequeño templo de madera, como el que el pagano Erik el Rojo construyó a su esposa cristiana Þjóðhildr en Brattahlíð, Groenlandia (Þjóðhildr no mostró la misma tolerancia que Erik, pues desde que abrazó el cristianismo no se volvió a acostar con él). De esta pequeña iglesia, llamada Þjóðhildarkirkja ("iglesia de Þjóðhildr"), tan sólo conservamos una reconstrucción.

During the viking age, there wasn't any big city in northern Europe, only small sedentary hamlets which could return to the nomadism when the situation required it (as the icelander settlers who went first to Greenland and from there to America). In these small villages didn't matter the art as a propaganda but the utilitarianism, linked to the hamlet's wellfare, so the only buildings were big community herds and some little wood temple, like the one builded by the pagan Erik the Red for his christian wife Þjóðhildr in Brattahlíð, Greenlandia (Þjóðhildr didn't show the same tolerance that Erik. In fact, when she became christian, she didn't share the bed with him anymore). Of this small temple, called Þjóðhildarkirkja ("Þjóðhildr's church"), we only have a reconstruction.

But, after the viking age, when began to emerge permanent cities, and obviously when the christianism had definitely settled, is when we see how is emerging a new sort of architecture: the Stavkirke or "Stave church"

Los vikingos (1958)

En la Europa del siglo VII. Einar (Kirk Douglas), hijo del rey Ragnar (Ernest Borgnine), es un impulsivo vikingo que disfruta con las incursiones que realiza en la cercana isla de Inglaterra, fruto de uno de las cuales consigue tomar como rehén a la bella princesa inglesa Morgana (Janet Leigh), de la que queda prendado. El tercer vértice del triángulo lo compone el esclavo Eric (Tony Curtis), hijo ilegítimo de Ragnar y por tanto hermano de padre de Einar (aunque ninguno de ellos lo sabe), que también está enamorado de Morgana y cuyo destino está unido al de Einar por un profundo odio.
